As part of the exhibition Spitzen Rauschen, we will visit Victoria Sarangova in her studio in Neukölln to gain a deeper insight into her artistic practice and personal archive.
Sarangova’s artistic works address the themes of progress, memory, and identity. Her works are mostly site-specific and question how complex histories have engraved themselves into material and human memory.
Depending on the existing conditions of a site, Sarangova picks up and collects materials, only to then deconstruct and reassemble them. In the studio, she will show how a new work emerges from the resulting fragments.
The artist will also talk about her series Archaeology of Progress, which has taken her to different locations over the years. What does it mean to work like an archaeologist? Sarangova digs through archives, apartments, historical audio recordings, and memories — and she will show how this approach led her to the Ernst-Thälmann-Park.
The installation Spitzen Rauschen is currently exhibited at the Pforte. The studio visit leads back to the beginning of the work — to the material, the process, and the questions that starts.
