How to Track Disinformation Networks

This workshop introduces the basics of networked disinformation and manipulation campaigns, helping participants acquire a methodology for discovering, mapping, and tracking networks of disinformation in different languages and contexts. Participants gain awareness that disinformation and manipulation campaigns are multi-dimensional and that digital investigators need to adopt a networked approach (looking for connections on multiple platforms) in order to „expose the invisible“ behind disinformation campaigns.

The workshop is a cooperation with Tactical Tech and will be led by Nicola Bruno.

Nicola Bruno

Nicola Bruno is a journalist and digital culture expert. He is one of the founders of the award-winning organization Dataninja where he manages Open the Box, a project for the dissemination of media and data literacy including three thematic paths on disinformation, social media and artificial intelligence. Since 2010 he has been a partner of Effecinque, where he has worked on several digital investigations using OSINT techniques. He is a visiting lecturer of Visual Storytelling at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy and he was a Journalist Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.

Tactical Tech

Das Tactical Technology Collective, kurz Tactical Tech, besteht aus Künstler:innen, Hacker:innen und Aktivist:innen und wurde 2003 in Amsterdam gegründet. Stetig wachsend eröffnete das Kollektiv weltweit informelle Büros, von Amman über Brighton bis Bangalore. Im Jahr 2012 fand das erweiterte internationale Team ein festes Zuhause in Berlin. Seit seiner Gründung hat Tactical Tech in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Partner:innen und Mitarbeiter:innen auf der ganzen Welt Hunderte von Interventionen und Ressourcen entwickelt. Diese frei zugänglichen Ressourcen fördern Medien- und Digitalkompetenzen und beschäftigen sich mit Themen wie Fehlinformation und Desinformation, Technologie und Krisen, Daten und politischem Einfluss.
